How we assist

We assist both individuals and families with the resources needed to address basic needs such as food and housing as well as public benefits and employment assistance.

We also teach self esteem and cooking classes to equip women with an inner confidence to lead an independent and successful life.

The opportunities we provide are by teaching single mothers and kids the importance of healthy eating, nutrition, easy meals, budgeting, and cleanliness that provide healthy habits for a child or children.

Food

Our goal is to assist women so they become independent successful members of society. To do this, we must first address barriers the women in our program are faced with. Not having any food to feed themselves and their children is a significant barrier. Women Connection Incorporated (WCI) provides food to these families to free their minds from worrying about where their next meal will come from so they can focus on rebuilding their lives.

Housing Program

We strive to provide a sense of “home” to the homeless. We invite both women and children in need into our warm homey environment so that each woman who walks through our doors feels welcomed and knows they have a safe place to rest. WCI takes caring for single mothers even further as for providing assistance. WCI goes to your location to find out what your living conditions are like. We offer different services, assess what you may need help on, as well as showing families how to live and maintain a safe and healthy environment.

Self Esteem Classes

Many women and their children suffer from poor self-image because they endured traumatic situations. Low self-esteem is a barrier that has a profound rippling impact on the lives of the women we serve. Through Glamour and More we interconnected issues of poverty, teen pregnancy, violence, and lack of educational attainment at their very root, by working with women and girls during the preteen and critical years, when personal choices that are made can have lifelong consequences.

Cooking Classes

We understand the importance of making healthy choices even when it comes to eating. To help our clients live a healthier lifestyle, we provide: nutrition education and cooking classes through our partner with the Houston Food Bank. Our clients also learn how to create a budget to maximize the finances they have or the benefits they receive through SNAP and other sources.

Homelessness in the USA

When most people think about the homeless population, they often will characterize the person as someone who is single living on the street. However, what many people don’t know is that the high percentage of the homeless population in the U.S. consists of families.

On average, a homeless family is typically a single mother in her 20’s with two young children.

Statistically many homeless mothers battle depression and unfortunately, have a history of childhood trauma compared to mothers in our general population. There are many reasons why families become homeless.

A great factor is the high rate of poverty in the U.S. Families living in poverty are at greater risk of becoming homeless.

Often most mothers who are homelessness have limited education. Therefore, finding a job that pays enough to cover rent and other expenses is challenging—and many times difficult.

Furthermore, homeless families experience violence and other traumas such as fleeing from violent partners only to find there are no safe options for them at that time.

When such experiences meet with the reality of high housing costs, avoiding homelessness becomes almost impossible.

This is why Women Connection Inc. was formed; to bring hope in what seems like a very hopeless situation. We provide programs that teach families new skills, earn a living, and get back on their feet.
